Tyrone Mings has had a very difficult 12 months at Aston Villa.
Mings has been out injured for over a year now after suffering a serious knee injury at the beginning of last season.
The Aston Villa captain is now on his way back, but he’s returning to a Villa team that has seriously changed.
Indeed, Mings will return to action with Villa playing in the Champions League under Unai Emery, and they’re looking to push even further this season.
Unfortunately for Mings, in his absence, Pau Torres has seriously stepped up and made that centre-back spot his own.
Speaking on Ben Foster’s podcast, Mings has been discussing his Villa return, and how he feels about Torres taking his spot.
How Tyrone Mings feels about Pau Torres
Mings shared his view of his Aston Villa teammate
Mings stated that he’s actually a really big fan of the £33m man and that he doesn’t have any ill will towards the Spaniard for taking his spot.
However, Mings did vow to return to his best form and try to take his spot in the team back.
“I’ll have to get match sharp again, and I have no doubt I will get back to that level, but I’m a big fan of Pau Torres as well.
“He’s the player in my position at the moment, but there’s no animosity where I’m thinking am I going to get back into my spot? That’s what a squad is about, that’s how we will evolve as a team,” Mings said.
When will Mings return for Aston Villa?
Tyrone Mings hasn’t played for over a year now, and many are wondering when we’ll see him back in action.
Before his injury, Mings was in great form under Unai Emery, and, luckily, it sounds like he will be back sooner rather than later.
In fact, speaking on this same podcast, Mings claimed he’s ready to return right now.
“Somoene asked me how I was feeling the other day, and I said if both centre-halves got injured before the Bayern Munich game and the manager said he needed me I would’ve been fine. I probably would’ve been awful, but there’s no apprehension, I’m just unfit,” Mings said.
Mings will be eased back into this Villa team with substitute and cup appearances, but it may not be long before he’s back in the starting XI.
Torres has been brilliant for Villa since his arrival, but he will have some serious competition once Mings is back fit and firing.
