'That's true': Newcastle are refusing to give up on signing £55m Bayern Munich star - journalist

Newcastle United had a quiet summer transfer window.

The Magpies weren’t big spenders throughout the summer as they were limited heavily by profit and sustainability rules.

Of course, it wasn’t for a lack of trying. Newcastle made multiple bids for Marc Guehi during the transfer window, but in the end, nothing came off.

It was a frustrating summer to say the least for Newcastle, but the club may have an exciting January transfer window.

Indeed, sporting director Paul Mitchell is apparently already looking towards the future, and according to Christian Falk, speaking on the FC Bayern Insider Podcast, Newcastle are very interested in signing Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane.

Newcastle interested in Leroy Sane transfer

Falk claimed that Newcastle are indeed keen on the £55m man.

The Magpies do need a new right-winger as their attack is very lopsided with players who operate down the left.

Sane, of course, knows the Premier League like the back of his hand after his time at Manchester City, so this would be a fantastic signing.

“Newcastle United are not letting up on Leroy Sane, is that true or not true?

“That’s true. We were the first to mention it here, Newcastle’s interest in Leroy Sane, it will be difficult to finance because Bayern would have to put a really bad offer on the table. He earns €20m-a-season, estimated of course,” Falk said.

Arsenal have also been linked with Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane is a player in demand, and, unfortunately, Newcastle aren’t the only team keen on the German, with Arsenal having also been credited with an interest in Sane.

In fact, Sane potentially would’ve signed for Arsenal if it wasn’t for Bayern Munich missing out on both Desire Doue and Xavi Simons.

“I later found out it was Sane and we were talking to him, but we couldn’t agree a deal with Bayern because they missed out on two key targets, Xavi Simons and Doue. They wanted both, but they got neither. It shows at the end of the window, they didn’t even get Coman out,” Arsenal insider Team News and Ticks said.

Arsenal ultimately ended up going for Raheem Sterling instead, but with the Chelsea star only arriving at the Emirates on a season-long loan, Arsenal may be back in for another winger before too long.

Sane is certainly a player to keep an eye on as we once again head into transfer season.
