'I'm being told...' - Keith Jackson: Rangers medical team really concerned about new injury

Rangers have been dealt a fresh injury blow with defender Ridvan Yilmaz who faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 23-year-old was stretched off the pitch in the 2-0 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League on Tuesday [13 August].

Keith Jackson, revealed the injury is worse than expected on the Daily Record Sport’s Hotline Live show [16 August] with the medical team concerned it could be months before the defender returns to the pitch.

He said: “I’m being told the injury is so bad, the swelling is so bad around the thigh, he’s still not been able to get a scan to find out the full extent [of the injury].

“The medical department are genuinely concerned by this, there’s a feeling it could be weeks going into months, possibly Autumn before Yilmaz will be in any position to make a comeback.”

Rangers could be without Ridvan Yilmaz for months

Yilmaz will never want to face Dynamo Kyiv again, he was largely to blame for their goal in Poland in the first leg and now will be out of action for months after his cameo in the second leg at Hampden Park.

Philippe Clement now only has Jefte as an option for left-back, who was sent off in the match on Tuesday, and, has no choice but to continue with the Brazilian despite his erratic early season performances in Scotland.

The injury, all but confirms that the Turkish defender will remain at the Gers this summer and will affect their plans towards the 30 August deadline as they hoped to move him on with a potential move to Galatasaray [Krampon Sports].

Clement undoubtedly would have planned to replace Yilmaz with the funds recouped from his sale but now faces the possibility of replacing the defender without an injection of cash with only a few weeks remaining of the summer transfer window.

Rangers now find themselves in a dire position, the £40m on offer through Champions League qualification would have provided Clement with a war chest to attack the transfer window but he now has to continue his approach of shrewd low-cost signings.

Jefte has the perfect opportunity to establish himself to the Rangers faithful in the coming weeks, he will now be under immense pressure to perform for the Light Blues and give Clement one less worry in their push to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.
