Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is keen on regular game time amid transfer links to Rangers and Celtic.
In an interview with Andy Mitten for the National, as shared by Football Scotland on 7 August, that the Hoops appear to be plotting a permanent move while Gers are keen on a loan signing.
AfricaFoot reported on 25 July that Gers were in advanced talks with Manchester United to secure the Tunisia international’s services in this transfer window.
He said: “As a footballer, I just want to play and show myself. Every player will say the same. I’m tired of sitting on a bench watching others play
“I was close with Antony Elanga and Teden Mengi. I’ve seen them leave the club and succeed as Premier League players and I’m proud of them. They needed to play every week like I do, but it’s harder to do it at United.
“I’m good with everyone here at United. I’m a smiley happy person. My friends now are Maxi [Oyedele] and Amad [Diallo], plus Lenny [Yoro] who just joined. He speaks French and he’s young like me.”
Rangers must capitalise on Hannibal Mejbri’s indirect desire to leave
Mejbri’s recent interview can be seen as an indirect “come and get me” plea, indicating his desire to leave Manchester United in search of regular playing time.
This presents a golden opportunity for Gers to beat their arch-rivals Celtic to his signature.
The 21-year-old’s comments about wanting to play and being tired of sitting on the bench are clear indications of his desire for more game time.
The fact that he mentioned his friends who have left United to succeed elsewhere further emphasises his need to play regularly.
Rangers should capitalise on this situation by offering Mejbri the opportunity to play a significant role in their team.
The prospect of regular first-team football could be a deciding factor in his decision.
By securing his services, Gers would not only strengthen their squad but also prevent Celtic from doing so.
In other Rangers news, the club are locked in a transfer battle as they aim to bring an English striker to Ibrox on a free transfer.
