Everton remain on track for their takeover by The Friedkin Group to go ahead but the date for completion has moved back slightly, according to Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports journalist responded to a fan via X on 25 October to indicate his expectation of an early December changeover from Farhad Moshiri to the new American owners.
Myers had predicted a late November completion when asked on 16 October, but he reported that progress is still being made as planned.
He wrote: “I don’t expect anything until early December [to be honest]”.
And then added: “But all going as planned I’m told”.
Leadenhall case ruling may have caused Everton delay
There shouldn’t be any major cause for alarm on Merseyside at this stage as long as there haven’t been any actual issues, which it doesn’t sound like there has been.
Myers’ projection has only been pushed back slightly, and may be a result of the decision in the Leadenhall legal case in America that Friedkin’s deal with A-Cap to pay off the £200milllion 777 Partners debt does fall under the legal injunction in that dispute [Paul Brown, 25 October].
That in itself is not entirely unexpected, and the deal as it currently stands may gain agreement from all the relevant parties anyway, but it had already been predicted to require some tweaking to get the green light [Matt Slater, 10 October].
Elsewhere, ratification from the Premier League and the Financial Conduct Authority is under way and there aren’t expected to be any issues there [Ben Jacobs, 23 September].
The main frustration with any delay looks to be as it relates to the Friedkins’ ability to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window with whatever PSR manoeuvrability they have.
A statement signing has been mooted [TBR Football, 22 October] but it remains to be seen whether it will be doable before the next accounting period begins in the summer.
Friedkin Group representatives have already been in at Everton in recent weeks on fact-finding missions, although Dan and Ryan Friedkin themselves are staying away until the deal is done [i News, 22 October], so as long as nothing actually pushes the deal back past the window they should be in a position to get to work on their priorities as soon as they come in.
In other Everton news, Dyche could be set for a long-term stay as Toffees manager following the latest update on Friedkin’s plans.
