'In trouble' - talkSPORT pundit warns of 'Major Issue' after what he has seen at Everton

Tony Cascarino fears Everton could be “in trouble” following a poor start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

The Toffees sit bottom of the Premier League table, picking up zero points against Brighton, Tottenham and Bournemouth, leaving Sean Dyche with plenty of pressure on his shoulders.

Given the amount of experience within the Goodison Park ranks, Cascarino has shared a “major issue” for the Merseyside club as a tough run of games in the coming weeks is mooted.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Saturday (14 September, 6:58am), he said: “Everton have conceded 10 goals in three Premier League games. How many games are Everton going to win comfortably?

“If they are going to win, it’s going to be by the odd goal. I never feel like there’s a 3-0 win in there with Everton. There’s a major issue because as much as it’s a small squad, they’ve got a lot of players who have played Premier League football. There’s a lot of experience in their team.

“They might not have the numbers of a big, bolstered squad, that can just change at will, but it’s a difficult time for them and they need a really big result.

“Going into early December, they have a run of games that, if they’re in trouble, they’re picking up hardly anything in that period. They must put points on the board pretty quickly after starting so poorly.”

The more optimistic fans have been able to pick out the positives from the Toffees’ opening three defeats, even during the 3-2 capitulation against the Cherries at Goodison Park.

Everton made multiple exciting signings during the summer transfer window, with Tim Iroegbunam settling well into life on Merseyside, but it is difficult to look past the results.

This has seen Dyche’s tenure at the club come under massive scrutiny, though it is understood he still has the complete backing of Farhad Moshiri despite claiming zero points from a possible nine [Sky Sports].

With matches against Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in December, the Toffees must pick up points between now and the Christmas period if they are to rise out of the relegation zone.

Few teams have managed the great escape, and although Dyche would be backed to achieve the impossible, being bottom of the league at the end of the year spells danger.
