Rangers loanee Vaclav Cerny has been slammed by French media after his miss against Lyon in the Europa League.

The Gers suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Ibrox on Thursday 3 October as Malick Fofana and Alexandre Lacazette took their chances for the away side.

Tom Lawrence did get on the score sheet for the Light Blues but the result could have been different if the Czechia international had taken his chance.

The Wolfsburg loanee has been picked out for an “incredible miss in front of the empty goal will give Scottish fans nightmares” [Le Figaro].

The Czechia international latched on to the ball inside the six yard box but sent the ball over the bar with “an improbable miss” [Le Figaro].

French outlet, 20 Minutes referred to Cerny as “the (not so) bald divine of the Rangers attack”, which sums up his showing against the Ligue 1 side.

It was a night to forget for Philippe Clement’s men as they were taught a lesson in taking your chances by the French side.

The Gers had their chances in the opening exchanges and their form almost hinged on Cerny missing a virtually open goal early on.

This set the tone as Lyon went up the other end and found the net almost instantly, leaving the Czechia star with his head in his hands.

Rayan Chekri caused problems throughout with his technical ability clear to see, combined with the devastating finishing of Lacazette.

The former Arsenal man found the top corner from outside of the box, leaving fans pulling their hair out after what they had seen Cerny do earlier in the encounter.

Fortunately for Clement, his side have already secured a win in the Europa League so this defeat at Ibrox isn’t as damaging as it might have been.

In other Rangers news, a UEFA fine could be imminent after a “crazy” incident at Ibrox against Lyon.
