Ewan Murray has blasted Philippe Clement over a “contradictory” response to a question from Four Lads after Rangers were beaten by Lyon.
Murray posted on X [3 October] to slam the Gers boss for how he answered doubts from the fan group over how his team struggle to absorb teams on the break, as the Ligue 1 side romped to a 4-1 win at Ibrox in the Europa League.
The Guardian journalist added that fan media gets a hard time because it is “wrongly branded”.
Murray’s post shared: “‘Fan media’ gets a hard time. Unfairly, [in my opinion] because it’s wrongly branded.
“Tonight, Four Lads Had a Dream asked Philippe Clement what I thought was a really strong question about Rangers’ inability to cope with teams breaking on them.
“Answer? Unconvincing, contradictory, telling.”
Rangers struggle to contain Lyon in defeat
Despite creating opportunities and seeing plenty of the ball in the first half, Clement found himself attempting to pick his Rangers team up from 3-1 down at the break at Ibrox.
Experienced striker Alexandre Lacazette had his shooting boots on, which was more than could be said for many of the Gers players while at the other end, Lyon broke dangerously on several occasions and Clement’s side could not handle it.
Visiting midfielder Corentin Tolisso attempted to play down suggestions before the game from the Light Blues manager that the teams were not on a level playing field, but the match told a completely different story.
It was almost like Clement’s comments were imposed as an insurance policy in case a result like this were to happen – Rangers fans would not have been blamed for looking at that and feeling uninspired by the comments.
In contrast to that viewpoint put across to the media – citing how much Lyon have spent in comparison – the Gers did commit men forward and give it a go, but they were completely picked off and the four-match winning run comes to a bitter end ahead of Sunday’s visit of St. Johnstone.
