Sky Sports journalist backs Sir Alex Ferguson for Rangers role amid fresh developments

Dan Bardell believes Sir Alex Ferguson could take up an advisory role at Rangers after purchasing a property near Ibrox.

The former Manchester United boss has snapped up a flat in the west end of Glasgow to spend more time with his brother Martin and also be closer to the Gers who are his “other team” [Alan Nixon].

This could represent positive news for the likes of John Gilligan as he looks to rebuild the Light Blues’ boardroom after John Bennett and James Bisgrove departed.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell could see the 82-year-old taking up a role at Ibrox after being controversially moved on from Old Trafford.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “I can see that happening.

Obviously there is a chance that he is going to have less involvement with Manchester United after everything that happened with his club ambassador role.

He’s bought that flat for a reason.

Rangers are in need of some impetus, there’s definitely going to be a fresh direction from the board in some senior positions.

So, in an advisory role, you could see a world where Sir Alex Ferguson is involved.

It has been a difficult patch for the Gers both on and off the pitch with boardroom issues reflecting on to the pitch at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement has come under fire for the performances of his side but with an uncertain situation at Ibrox, the Belgian has arguably been let down at times.

With Gilligan keen to have these problems sorted in the coming weeks, having Ferguson as an advisor for any new board members could prove to be beneficial for all parties.

The legendary manager has so much experience and that could be just what the Light Blues need in a period of difficulty for the club.
