Insider: PL club race to sign 'Huge' Man United player in Jan, '£20m bid' was rejected

Harry Maguire is attracting attention from a number of Premier League clubs amid uncertainty over his contract at Man United, according to the club’s former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that multiple clubs are monitoring his situation and could make a move if he becomes available.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and with no offer of a new deal on the table as things stand, will be available to move for free in the summer of 2025.

His experience, quality and leadership at both club an international level are said to have placed him on the radar of a number of clubs.

Brown told Football Insider on 6 November that Ruben Amorim will make the final decision about whether the clubs will offer a new deal to Maguire.

However, as things stand, the situation is currently in the defender’s hands with growing interest in his signature come the end of the season.

It has been said that clubs will be “queuing up” for his signature come the end of the season if he does not sign a new deal at Old Trafford.

West Ham are among the clubs to have previously expressed an interest in signing the defender, and there is a belief that interest may still linger at the London Stadium.

Brown, who explained he had recommended the Hammers sign Maguire during his time in East London before a £20million bid was turned down, went on to insist that “any club” in need of a centre-back will be interested in the England man.

“There are Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on the situation,” he told Football Insider.

“Any club who wants a solid and experienced leader and centre-back will be interested in Harry Maguire.

“He’s a huge threat from set-pieces, both defending and attacking them, and he’s good on the ball.

“He was England’s first-choice centre-back for years so he’s got so much experience.

“I was constantly on about him when I was at West Ham, but they made an offer of £20million for him and it was quickly rejected.

“They’re still looking at singing a new centre-back now, so I’d expect that interest is still there.

“If United decide to let him go at the end of the season, there are clubs queuing up for his signature, so he won’t be short of options.”
