Neil McCann has predicted that Celtic will come out on top against Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden on Sunday.
The BBC pundit believes the Hoops are the heavy favourites going into the game on 15 December, but feels Philippe Clement has a chance to break his Old Firm “duck” after holding Tottenham to a 1-1 draw in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday (12 December).
He insisted that the Gers would need to replicate their performance on Thursday to beat Brendan Rodgers’ side, who he nevertheless tipped to claim the win.
“It’s a tough one to pick, I think Celtic are heavy favourites”, McCann said on BBC Football Focus (14 December, 12:50 pm).
“Philippe Clement has not enjoyed a victory against Celtic yet, but what a chance for him to break that duck.
“Obviously, Rangers are the holders, going to Hampden, of that trophy, but Rangers have struggled with consistency a wee bit.
“I think the result during the week against Spurs should really give them confidence.
“I feel that was probably their best performance of the season, they will need to replicate that against Celtic because Celtic are in an irresistible form right now, so it’s very hard to put my finger on.
“I’m not one for sitting on the fence, I think Celtic will come out on top, but as you know and expect, I hope I’m wrong.”
Neil McCann hopes he’s wrong about Celtic v Rangers Scottish League Cup final
The Gers had an underwhelming start to the season, falling 11 points behind the Bhoys, but is slowly starting to turn things around.
They are unbeaten in five games across all competitions, scoring 15 times and conceding just twice in the process.
Clement could be rewarded for the same with a trophy if the Light Blues continue their fine form against Celtic on Sunday.
However, it remains to be seen if the Belgian tactician can put an end to his poor record against the reigning champions. He has lost four and drawn one of his five games against Celtic so far.
Clement will be hopeful that all his players are firing on all cylinders at Hampden as they look to claim the win in what could be a pivotal game in their season.
With Fraser Thornton and Patrick Stewart taking office as the chairman and CEO respectively on Monday (16 December), Clement will be determined to make a strong impression.
