'It makes sense' - Rangers star hints at exit, his situation at Ibrox is not clear

Ianis Hagi admits that a Rangers exit makes sense but expressed his commitment towards helping them close the gap with Celtic.

Speaking after helping Romania beat Cyprus 4-1 on Monday [18 November], the 26-year-old admitted that he is unsure about his future at Ibrox as he reacted to speculation.

Nevertheless, he is determined to help the Light Blues catch up with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, pointing towards football’s “unpredictable” nature.

“It makes sense to write that I am leaving Rangers”, Hagi was quoted as saying by GSP [19 November].

“My situation is not clear at the club, but my thought is only on this team, to be at my best.

“We have an important couple of weeks left and we need to close the gap on Celtic, but football is always unpredictable.”

Ianis Hagi makes Rangers exit confession, mentions Celtic

Hagi has accumulated just 50 minutes of playing time in the league after being frozen out in the first two months of the season.

The former Genk star was exiled from Philippe Clement’s squad amid a contract dispute, which eventually ended after he agreed to waive a wage-rise clause in his contract [Daily Record, 1 October].

Clement, thus, brought him back to the fold, with players and the board also pressuring him to do so.

However, the Belgian tactician does not seem sold on Hagi’s abilities and it would be understandable if the Romania international left the club as he is entering the peak years of his career.

Nevertheless, Hagi expressing his commitment towards helping Rangers cause an upset over Celtic is a testament to his attitude and admiration for the club.

The Gers have fallen nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the title race and it is a herculean task to usurp them between now and the end of the season.

Clement and Co. will, however, have a chance to get one over on Celtic when they face each other in the League Cup final at Hampden on 15 December.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart had his jaw dropped after what this Gers star did away from Ibrox on Monday, 18 November.
