Mark Guidi believes Rangers fans would celebrate if the Belgium FA were to hire Philippe Clement and has suggested there would be a pay-off in the process.
Domenico Tedesco is under pressure at the Red Devils, and Clement has been touted as the favourite to replace him if sacked [Rangers Review, 18 November].
The Light Blues recently announced that the 50-year-old had extended his contract until 2028, and speaking on the Go Radio Football Show Podcast [18 November], Guidi suggests that Belgium would have to pay a pretty penny to get him, which the Ibrox faithful wouldn’t mind.
“The Rangers fans, in terms of if the club had to accept compensation and allow him to go, I think mostly Rangers fans would be celebrating,” he said.
“It’s not a pleasant atmosphere at the moment. They’re not enjoying the style of football. I don’t think there would be any tears if Philippe Clement goes.
“Todesco was in a similar situation in the Euros. I think he offered his resignation. He stayed on and said they’ll try new things.
“Whether towards the end of the campaign, they look for somebody else if the Belgium FA decide to dispense of his services. But at the moment, he’s still in place, and it would take a few quid for Belgium to get Clement out of the club, considering he signed that new deal.”
Rangers should part ways with Philippe Clement
It would undoubtedly be the cherry on top for supporters if the Bears were to accept a fee from Belgium to part ways with Clement.
The fans already want to see the back of the 50-year-old after a poor start to the season, with the Gers sitting third in the Scottish Premiership, already nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen.
In the current campaign, the Belgian hasn’t done himself any favours with performances, and some felt the 2-1 loss to Aberdeen should’ve been the final straw.
The Rangers hierarchy has stuck with Clement for now, but maybe that could have something to do with the fact that they’ll have to pay him off to get rid of him [Daily Record, 13 November].
It’s unfortunate that supporters have to go through this, and it feels like the club will now play the waiting game to see whether the Belgium FA will make a move.
Regardless of whether the Bears will have to pay the 50-year-old, it isn’t prudent for them to stick with him as things could always get worse regarding their prospects in all competitions.
In other Rangers news, alarm bells are ringing at the club as an offer from Saudi has emerged.
