'It's also a blow' - Pundit: Hibs star likely to be ruled out of Rangers game due to injury

Hibs winger Martin Boyle is likely to miss the game against Rangers on 29 September, according to Tam McManus.

The 31-year-old Australia international is expected to undergo surgery on his hand which will keep him out for a few weeks.

Boyle has been a regular this season for Hibs, scoring three goals and providing an assist in seven games in all competitions.

McManus told the Daily Record on 19 September: “It’s also a blow with Martin Boyle likely to miss the Rangers game after the break as he’s finally going under the knife to get his hand fixed. He looked back to his best against Saints and it was nice to hear him saying he was going to be more selfish.

“I’m not sure I would have felt the same if he’d missed that one the other day and I was screaming for him to square it. But it’s good to see attackers with only one thought in their mind. It’s a shame he’ll need to step back for a couple of weeks to get surgery but you suspect it’s for the greater good.”

Rangers have to beat Hibs and build momentum for games to come

Boyle or not, Gers have no option but to win all their games in SPFL, especially the ones played at home.

They’re already playing catch up to Celtic and a five-point gap this early in the season is huge and can quickly get out of their hands.

Philippe Clement needs to spend more time with the players on the training pitch as they cannot give in this early in the season.

Celtic appear to be running away with it, as things stand, and if the Belgian sees himself as the right man for the job, it’s time he starts delivering.

Hopefully, things improve sooner rather than later and Rangers start controlling games from start to end and play with an air of authority.

Dropping points needlessly will only make things more difficult for them and what they need right now is to go on a run of seven to eight wins.

In other Rangers news, a claim has emerged on a replacement for James Tavernier at Ibrox when he leaves.
