'Tremendous' - Keith Jackson wowed by what he saw Rangers star do this week

Rangers defender John Souttar was dubbed “tremendous” by Keith Jackson after his performance for Scotland against Portugal on Tuesday (15 October).

Steve Clarke’s men drew 0-0 with their European rivals and still find themselves bottom of their Nations League group, but finally got a point on the board.

Souttar started the game alongside Grant Hanley and managed to keep a brilliant clean sheet at Hampden Park.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (16 October), Jackson shared a quick verdict on what he saw from the Ibrox stopper.

“Big John Souttar was tremendous all night,” he said.

The Gers were one of the busiest teams in Scotland during the summer transfer window, big things were expected but unfortunately, not everything went to plan.

This resulted in Rangers having a rather slow start to their season, dropping points to Hearts on the opening day before losing to Celtic.

Connor Goldson was one of the many players who moved on with Aris Limassol paying £1.4million to acquire his services [Derek Clark, 30 July].

Robin Propper was brought in as his replacement and since the Dutchman has been integrated into the squad, he’s been in good form and has created a solid partnership with Souttar.

The defenders complement each other nicely. There have, of course, been games where they’ve not played to that top level such as the 4-1 Europa League loss to Lyon but more often than not, they’ve put in a good shift.

Souttar must bring this form back to Ibrox with him, and now it is all about climbing back into title contention in the Scottish Premiership.
