Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed it could be time for an exiled Chelsea star to “test” the club and fight back through the legal system.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed he “knows a few employment lawyers who would be keen to take that case”.
Football Insider finance expert Stefan Borson revealed on 20 August that Chelsea’s banished stars could potentially submit a claim for constructive dismissal after being banned from the club’s first-team facilities.
He claimed clubs can’t ban players from certain areas of the workplace and effectively guarantee they are unable to play football to the standard they are employed to reach.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca revealed earlier this week that he has exiled “15-20” members of his squad.
He said: “It’s not a mess like it looks from the outside. Absolutely not. They can even have 20 years contract, it’s not my point. I don’t care.”
‘It’s time for a player to test’ Chelsea through legal system, says Wyness
When asked about the potential for players to take legal action, Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s time for a player to test Chelsea.
“I know a few employment lawyers who would be keen to take that case.
“Trevoh Chalobah is a very talented player, I tried to take him to Villa – and Chelsea could have done well with him in the team. But he’s on the sidelines.
“There are so many others like him in the same position.
“If they are going to go down the route of constructive dismissal, that may be the wrong way to do it – but I’ll speak to a major employment lawyer and hear his view on the cases.”
