'It's True' - Stefan Borson drops huge Everton takeover claim tonight

Everton prospective owner Dan Friedkin is close to completing his takeover after taking steps to appoint a new chief executive.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider there have been various stories that have emerged to suggest the deal is close to completion at Goodison Park.

Friedkin agreed a deal in September to buy Everton owner Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the club and is currently undergoing the regulatory processes before he can take control.

The takeover is also being held up by the Leadenhall case as the New York court overseeing the legal battle involving 777 Partners needs to approve the settlement of the £200million loan provided to the Merseysiders by the US investment firm.

But Football Insider revealed on 12 November Friedkin is still on course to complete the takeover before the end of December after no unforeseen issues have emerged.

The Athletic reported on 8 November Everton have hired Nolan Partners to lead the search for a new CEO, with the recruitment firm speaking to various candidates about the position.

Colin Chong is currently acting as interim CEO at Goodison.

Borson believes the search for a new chief is an indication Friedkin is closing in on his takeover.

He told Football Insider: “There have been various stories around that have suggested that the takeover is close.

“We had a story last week about the process to find a new chief executive, the hiring of Nolan Partners.

“Nolan Partners are a very well-known recruiter of senior sports executives and they have spoken to people.

“I think that story must be true because that’s how it got out into The Athletic.

“If that’s true, I would therefore think that Friedkin is getting quite close to doing the deal.

“You would think that there are a whole host of first steps that are being taken.”
