Christopher Nkunku could force a move away from Chelsea after becoming unhappy with his lack of regular playing time.
This is according to former Man United, West Ham and Tottenham scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Frenchman could provide the club with an ultimatum over his exit.
Brown explained that he could demand more playing time from his manager and look to leave if he isn’t given assurances about his role.
Nkunku has started just one Premier League game so far this season despite his 18 appearances across all competitions, and remains a rotational player under Enzo Maresca.
However, it is said he is keen to play regular football as one of the key players in their Premier League squad and is growing frustrated at his position.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider that the 27-year-old is on Man United’s list of potential targets ahead of the January transfer window.
Now, the forward could demand further opportunities to play from the start in the league, alongside the threat of leaving Stamford Bridge amid growing interest.
Christopher Nkunku could push for Chelsea exit in January
Nkunku’s current Chelsea contract is set to run until 2029, throwing further complication for Chelsea into the discussion surrounding his future.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite players including over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that his exit is now on the cards, whether it be in January or at the end of the season.
“Chelsea might be forced to let Nkunku go,” he told Football Insider.
“You’ve got this situation now, this buildup of players, which will cause problems for them at some stage.
“You’ve got players who are playing in Europe and in cup games who, realistically, should be playing every week in the Premier League.
“And out of those players, I can confidently say most would want to be playing every week.
“So, I could see him wanting to leave and it wouldn’t surprise me if he pushed for it.
“Whether that happens in January or at the end of the season it remains to be seen.
“One thing he might do is, he could go to the manager to demand more playing time, but if he doesn’t get it, then he’ll look to move elsewhere.
“Because he’s not happy, he wants to play regular Premier League football from the start, he’s not happy just coming off the bench.“
