Jack Grealish reacts as Kyle Walker pleads with Man City fans after Liverpool

Jack Grealish has reacted Kyle Walker’s message as he pleaded with Man City fans to stick with the club via social media after admitting their performances “haven’t been up to standard”.

The reigning Premier League champions continued their recent dismal form on Sunday (1st December), with a 2-0 defeat away at league leaders Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s side have now drawn one and lost six of their last seven games in all competitions, and are 11 points behind the Reds in the title race.

Walker endured another tough afternoon at Anfield in which he was criticised by a number of Man City fans, although he has asked them to stick by the team, even though he admits things are not good enough.

Taking to Instagram to send a message to the club’s supporters the right-back wrote: “We know our recent performances haven’t been up to the standard we expect, and we’re aware it’s been tough. But we’ve been through these challenges before, together, and we’ll come through this one as well. It’s important that we all stay together as one club, as Manchester City, through this tough spell. Your support, whether in the good times or the difficult moments, means everything to us.

“We’ve won titles in the final games of the season, and we’ve made history with a record-breaking 100-point campaign, right down to the last kick. We’ve shown time and time again that we can rise to the challenge, and we will do so again. I promise you, we’ll fight until the very end.”

Grealish responded by both liking the post and commenting with a pair of blue hearts.

This is certainly a passionate rallying call from the defender to the club’s fanbase, but as he promises, the talking will need to be done on the pitch sooner rather than later.

Sunday’s clash with Liverpool is not the first time in this run of poor form that Walker has been caught out badly to the expense of his team.

That has led to questions as to whether the England international can still play at the level needed to help his side to the sort of achievements he mentions here.

It already looks a big ask for Guardiola’s side to do that this season, and Walker is far from the only one performing below his peak level for the club at the minute.

Grealish himself has seen his career stall somewhat from the heights of the treble-winning season, as he missed out on Euro 2024 following a difficult campaign last term, and only came off the bench late at Anfield amid indifferent form at present.

Even so, it appears that as the senior members of this Man City squad are trying to take the responsibility to come out and front up to the fans with a statement here.

Given Walker is the one who has chosen to do that, it may put even more scrutiny on him to live up to his commitment of turning things around, when he and his teammates are back out on the pitch.
