Jamal Musiala says £125m Liverpool target is actually better than Phil Foden
Jamal Musiala's comments will make Arne Slot's day ????
Bayern Munich sensation Jamal Musiala is one of the best players and with that being the case, it is always interesting to hear how such a superstar views the game.
Musiala has also played with some of the standout names across world football for both Bayern and Germany.
Names like Thomas Mueller, Toni Kroos, Harry Kane and Joshua Kimmich instantly spring to mind.
The same can be said for Phil Foden, who plays in the same attacking midfield position as Musiala and is one of the most highly-rated players the game has to offer.
However, the German international believes that he has played with a superior number 10 than Foden.
The midfielder is none other than Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool are interested in signing Wirtz, as per a revelation in November, who has established himself as one of Europe’s best attackers at Bayer Leverkusen.
Wirtz is valued by Leverkusen at £125 million, as his stock continues to rise week in and week out.
Jamal Musiala says Florian Wirtz is better than Phil Foden
Speaking to GOAL, Musiala was asked to pick who he feels is the better player between Wirtz and Foden.
The Stuttgart-born dribbler instantly replied: “Wirtz.”
Wirtz was compared to Foden by Mark Schwarzer due to being similarly “dynamic” and “elegant.”
Liverpool would be hoping to sign the German international, considering he would be an upgrade on their current attacking midfield options such as Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott.
Last season, the 21-year-old registered 18 goals and 20 assists in all competitions, leading Bayer Leverkusen to a legendary campaign where they won both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.
Wirtz vs Foden stats this season
Based on both Wirtz and Foden’s form this season, it is difficult not to agree with Musiala.
The statistics back up how better a campaign the former is having to the latter.
IN ALL COMPETITIONS THIS SEASON PLAYER STARTS GOALS ASSISTS WIRTZ 19 11 5 FODEN 13 3 2
In the Premier League, the Manchester City maestro has started a mere seven game due to various illness and injury problems.
But on form, while Wirtz is flying, Foden’s form has regressed.
Until the Englishman can return to his outstanding best from last season, the Liverpool target will widely be viewed as the better midfielder.
Whether Arne Slot’s side can pull off a deal for Wirtz remains to be seen but there is no questioning that he is a special player.
