Jamie Carragher has predicted Newcastle to pick up the three points against Everton at Goodison Park on 5 October.
The former Liverpool captain told Sky Sports’ Super 6 that he backs the Magpies to seal a 2-1 victory over Sean Dyche’s side in front of their home fans.
The Toffees picked up their first league win of the season last weekend against Crystal Palace and will be hoping to on a run with another positive result.
Everton will want Jarrad Branthwaite fit against Newcastle
The Toffees’ prospects against Newcastle could hinge significantly on the fitness of Jarrad Branthwaite, whose presence in defence has been pivotal.
If the 22-year-old is unavailable due to fitness issues, his likely replacement, Michael Keane, represents a noticeable downgrade.
Keane’s performances have been inconsistent, with his impact not matching Branthwaite’s reliability and composure.
The left-footed centre-back’s absence could lead to a less secure backline, potentially exploited by Newcastle’s attacking flair.
His ability to read the game and intercept plays has been a bulwark for Everton, offering not just physicality but also tactical nous.
Keane, while experienced, lacks Branthwaite’s current form and confidence, which might make the Toffees more vulnerable to Newcastle’s tricky attacking setup.
In other Everton news, adversarial measures may be on the cards with regards to the takeover amid a £200million development.
