West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo has confirmed he’s “not gonna leave” in a message to a fan after their 1-1 Premier League draw with Brighton on Saturday (December 21).
The 24-year-old replaced Konstantinos Mavropanos at half-time with the score at 0-0 as West Ham secured a much-needed point for Julen Lopetegiu.
Mats Wieffer scored the opener for Brighton in the 51st minute before Mohammed Kudus got the equaliser, pouncing on Bart Verbruggen’s parry from Jarrod Bowen’s initial shot.
The Hammers have won just one of their last five Premier League games, a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Wolves, as they sit in 14th with 20 points from their 17 games.
Jean-Clair Todibo reaffirms commitment to West Ham in new message to a fan
According to Caught Offside, Todibo was looking to leave the club just six months after joining if Lopetegui wasn’t sacked for their poor start to the season.
The centre-back has since dismissed the rumours, taking to Instagram to respond to a fan urging him not to leave, saying: “I’m not gonna leave big man, West Ham are massive! Don’t believe the media.”
Todibo has failed to nail down a starting spot since joining the club in the summer, starting nine of his 14 games across all competitions, scoring zero goals, and providing zero assists in 831 minutes of action.
Lopetegui’s side will travel to bottom-placed Southampton on Boxing Day (December 26) as they aim to put more distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
