Jeff Stelling has hailed Everton defender Michael Keane for his goal in the 2-0 win against Ipswich Town on Saturday (19 October).

Keane’s strike secured the three points for the Toffees at Portman Road, smashing past Arijanet Muric into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [22 October, 09:53], Stelling reacted after an Everton fan shared his own commentary of the moment.

“Near-post pile-driver,” he said.

Everton have Michael Keane selection dilemma

Some of Keane’s performances this season have left a lot to be desired, however, over the past couple of weeks, the defender has come into his own.

He’s cemented his role in Sean Dyche’s first-team in the absence of Jarrad Branthwaite, who’s still sidelined due to injury and has helped shore up the defence.

While Everton’s defensive line has by no means been the strongest in the Premier League, it feels like improvements are slowly being made across the board.

After the first few games of the season, fans were calling for Dyche’s head due to the poor start but Everton have chosen to stick by their manager and it has seemingly worked out.

Dan Friedkin’s expected takeover of the club will no doubt affect where the future of the 53-year-old lies but for now, things seem to be looking up for Everton.

With the impending return of Branthwaite after his extended period on the sidelines, however, Dyche will have a selection dilemma on his hands between his three favoured centre-back options for their upcoming Premier League games.
