Ex-Chief Scout: Tuchel unimpressed by Man United's star players

Massimiliano Allegri and Thomas Tuchel would not be interested in taking over at Man United if Erik ten Hag is sacked, according to the club’s former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at United for over a decade during their most successful period, has exclusively told Football Insider that top bosses have been put off of the job by the performances and attitudes of some of the players.

It was said that the top brass at Old Trafford would like to hire an experienced winner if they pull the trigger on Ten Hag’s position amid growing pressure – but those bosses may not be available.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 1 October that United are interested in speaking to the former Juventus boss about the potential job opening.

Allegri, who would bring a wealth of experience having won six Scudettos before leaving Turin in May, is said by sources to be at the top of their list of candidates.

However, any incoming manager is expected to be keen on utilising the transfer market to stamp their own mark on the current squad.

Concerns have been growing about the attitude of some of Ten Hag’s players given their inconsistent performances, and Brown has insisted those issues will put off new bosses.

Many of the players in United’s current squad were signed by Ten Hag after having previously worked under the boss, but have so far failed to meet expectations.

Brown, who spent time as the club’s chief scout and also worked as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager, confessed that potential big-name managers would immediately look to bring in their own players in the transfer window.

“I’ve heard they would like a big-name manager to take over,” he told Football Insider.

“But I’m not sure there’s a wide pot of options who would be interested in the job. It’s not as if there are three or four candidates who you could take.

“Allegri certainly has an impressive profile so he’s got that going for him.

“There are a load of players at United that somebody has got to come in and deal with.

“I’m not convinced that Allegri and other top managers like him and Thomas Tuchel would want that lot under them.

“There are just too many concerns there with the players.

“So coming in, they’re already governed by the transfer window, whether they can bring in their own players and whether they can make some changes.“
