Everton must learn from their mistakes when planning for the January transfer window.
The Blues are preparing to be active in the winter transfer market with the backing of The Friedkin Group, with the proposed takeover on track to be completed by the December deadline [Alan Myers].
Foot Mercato reported on Tuesday [10 December] that Kevin Thelwell is looking to revive a move for Lyon forward Ernest Nuamah to help steer the Toffees away from the relegation zone.
Thelwell is already in the firing line at Goodison Park with his summer acquisitions failing to reach the desired heights on Merseyside, and returning for a player who has already rejected the move is nothing short of self-sabotage.
Everton cannot sign Ernest Nuamah
The 21-year-old was on the brink of completing a sensational deadline-day move to Everton, but he suffered a late change of heart during his medical [Sunday People].
Dyche is back in familiar territory at Goodison Park as he prepares for another relegation battle on Merseyside, and freshening up the personnel could turn the tide.
A return for Nuamah is undoubtedly tempting – Lyon could be persuaded into accepting a cut-price offer after the French outfit were provisionally relegated from Ligue 1 and hit with a transfer ban due to John Textor’s financial mismanagement [Fabrizio Romano].
However, the Ghana international has already said no before; Everton need recruits eager to play for the badge, so what is the point in securing a signing who evidently wants nothing to do with the club?
There are other alternative options on the market – Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt will be available in January, and the possibility of the Scouser revitalising his career in his hometown is a far more attractive proposition.
The potential deal for Nuamah has all the makings to be another in a long line of transfer failures at Goodison Park, so Thelwell should not need to be told that Nuamah should be avoided at all costs.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche will be thrilled at the Toffees as new Arsenal injury news emerges.
