Joe Gomez responds to Liverpool transfer development

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has informed the club he wants to leave if their asking price is met, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old did not travel with Liverpool for their opening Premier League game against Ipswich Town as he explores his options before the transfer window closes.

Arne Slot opted to start Virgil van Dijk and Jarell Quansah at centre-back, with Ibrahima Konate coming on for the second half.

There is strong interest in Gomez from Aston Villa at the moment, while Newcastle and Fulham have previously monitored him.

The Reds value the England international at £40-45million, and a bid around that fee will be enough to seal a deal.

Football Insider revealed that Liverpool and Newcastle had held part-exchange talks involving Gomez and Anthony Gordon, but nothing was agreed.

Gomez might’ve missed out on Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Ipswich, but he was a crucial part of the squad last season.

The Englishman made 51 appearances in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp, starting in 31 of those games.

Football Insider revealed that Aston Villa could sell Diego Carlos this month in a bid to facilitate a move for Gomez.

Another defender who could leave Anfield before the window closes is Owen Beck, following his impressive loan at Dundee last season.

Football Insider revealed that Celtic are monitoring the 22-year-old, with several Championship clubs also monitoring him.
