Journo shares if EFL club will make move for exit-linked Rangers attacker

Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo is not understood to be a transfer target for Leeds United ahead of the August deadline, according to Joe Donnohue.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported on Friday (16 August) that the Championship club are not believed to be in the process of making a move for the Welsh international, despite wanting to sign a new winger.

Daniel Farke’s have been scouting new widemen throughout the summer as they prepared for the departure of Crysencio Summerville, but Matondo will not be one of those pursued.

Reports had emerged from within Scotland that the Rangers attacker was being tracked by the English club as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of another promotion push [Football Scotland, 15 August].

Links between Matondo and Leeds had seemingly come from nowhere this summer as there has been very little speculation around the Welshman’s future at Ibrox over the last couple of months of the window.

There is a feeling that almost every player in Philippe Clement’s squad, barring Jack Butland, is for sale at the right price. However, there has been next to no indication that anyone is even keeping tabs on the Welsh international.

Obviously, at this stage of the summer things can change in an instant and it will only take one bid for Matondo’s situation to completely change. At this stage though, a summer move to Elland Road seems incredibly unlikely.

It seems as though the winger will be spending the first portion of the season with Clement at Ibrox.

He has shown in the past that he has the ability to be a difference-maker at this level, now he just needs to do it on a more consistent basis to earn his stripes.
