'Great Elegance' - Pundit raves over 'Excellent' Rangers ace after what he's seen

Craig Levein has been left wowed by Rangers ace John Souttar after the form he’s found himself in this season.

The defender has been one of the Gers’ best players this term and has been hailed by fans and pundits alike for the performances he’s put in.

Speaking to BBC Sport (21 November), Levein shared his thoughts on how the performances of the centre-back have benefitted Rangers and Scotland this term.

“Souttar has been doing really well, his performances have been excellent,” he said.

“John is maturing into a player who’s always had great elegance, but his decision-making and his use of the ball are now better. “He’s got good speed. Physically, he’s a unit now.

“He’s good in the air. I’m thrilled for him. He’s had three really bad Achilles injuries in the past, and coming back from that, all credit to him to get to the level he’s now at.”

Rangers have relied on John Souttar a lot this season

The Gers’ summer transfer window was full of change and saw many new faces welcomed through the Ibrox doors.

Players such as Connor Barron, Jefte and Robin Propper are just a select few who have been regularly involved in Philippe Clement’s squad this term.

The latter of the three, however, has recently been usurped by Leon Balogun at centre-back due to his poor form.

The Dutchman was brought in to be Connor Goldson’s replacement, but in reality, it feels like they’ve downgraded their squad by bringing him in.

Souttar has had a recent resurgence of form and while it’s always been known that he’s a good player, his injuries have often hindered him so it’s nice for fans to finally see his full potential.

Without the Scotsman within their ranks this term, Clement’s team would be far worse off, and the manager himself would be under even more scrutiny than he already is.

Only time will tell what the future has in store for the Ibrox outfit, but as long as their future includes Souttar, they should be more than fine.
