Brennan Johnson could risk losing his place in the Tottenham team after the forward disappointed off the bench in the 1-0 win against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

Spurs hosted the Dutch side on 24 October and came out winners after Richarlison, who returned from his injury, converted from the penalty spot.

Johnson came on at half-time to replace Timo Werner, who struggled to make an impact against the Eredivisie outfit playing on the left wing.

However, the former Nottingham Forest star didn’t bring much to the team as the North Londoners held on to their slim lead towards the end of the fixture.

The 23-year-old has been in brilliant form over the last few weeks, scoring three goals in his last four Premier League appearances.

Brennan Johnson poor for Tottenham v Alkmaar

Johnson has started in eight of Tottenham’s 13 fixtures so far this season, as Ange Postecoglou seems to trust the attacker.

However, the Wales international could’ve hurt his chances of starting in upcoming games after completing just 50 per cent of his passes against Alkmaar, as per FotMob.

Only touching the ball 14 times and attempting eight passes shows how the action evaded him with ease, and Postecoglou needs players who step up in these moments.

On top of that, the 23-year-old had an xG of 0.12, showing his lack of threat up front with two touches in the opposition box, and he didn’t even contribute much defensively, getting involved in just three duels and attempting zero tackles.

On the other hand, Lucas Bergvall showed why Postecoglou must trust him more, being one of the best players on the pitch against the Dutch side.

Micky Moore also made a case for himself with an exceptional display, being a constant threat to the opposition.

Therefore, with Son Heung-min returning to the fold, Johnson must be looking over his shoulders and hoping the Australian doesn’t take the performance into account ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace on 27 October.

In other Tottenham news, this player was sold after just three weeks in Enfield.
