Journo shares scenario that does not bear thinking about for Everton in summer transfer window

Joe Thomas believes Everton could have to make some “sacrifices” this summer to protect themselves.

Writing via the Liverpool Echo (17 June), the journalist highlighted two “pinch points” that could cause issues for the Toffees in the transfer window over the coming months.

And he said a particular concern is that Everton find themselves in a weak spot at both of those pinch points and have tough decisions to make in terms of player sales.

He wrote: “What does not bear thinking about is a scenario where the Blues are at their weakest at just the wrong moments.

“Potentially forcing them to have to decide whether to make sacrifices on-the-pitch in order to protect themselves from danger off the pitch.”

Everton might need to sell several players at Goodison Park this summer

Every Everton supporter would have come into this transfer window with the knowledge that players might need to be sold.

However, what they will be hoping is that they don’t need to get rid of too many big names at Goodison Park.

The likes of Jordan Pickford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Amadou Onana and of course, Jarrad Branthwaite would all fetch big fees for Everton.

Big fees which would help improve the debt-ridden club’s financial situation.

But supporters won’t want to see all of their best players moved on.

Selling one or two of the names mentioned would be understandable. However, selling three or four of them could leave the club in a tricky spot next season.

While they will be keen to protect themselves from any punishments off the field, leaving themselves short could lead to them getting punished on the pitch next season.

It therefore looks as if it is going to be a tricky summer at Goodison Park.
