Journo View: 'Another damaging night' on the cards for Clement as Rangers v FCSB predicted

Daily Record journalist Fraser Wilson believes a difficult start against FCSB at Ibrox could be damaging for Philippe Clement’s future at Rangers.

The Gers welcome the Romanian outfit to Glasgow on Thursday 24 October as they look to secure their second Europa League win of the season.

The Belgian manager has come under pressure after a defeat against Kilmarnock but, writing for the Daily Record on 24 October (page 55), things could get worse if the Light Blues start badly against FCSB.

He said: “Rangers need to get off to a strong start or Ibrox could turn into a cauldron of the wrong sort. This could be another damaging night for Clement.”

The Light Blues had been looking up in recent weeks with a defeat against Lyon being a mark against a generally positive run of form.

This had seen five wins from six games after the defeat to Celtic in the Old Firm in September but all came crashing down with the defeat at Rugby Park.

Marley Watkins’ goal was always coming as the Gers failed to create many chances for themselves while looking suspect defensively.

This can not be the case against FCSB as Clement needs to hope for a much better performance and result in Europe.

If not his future at Ibrox could be at risk as fans start to turn and demands of patience will start to rub them up the wrong way.

There is only so long that supporters will put up with wishy-washy performances especially when they sit third in the table, six points behind Aberdeen and Celtic.
