Journo View: Ibrox return will help as Rangers add to fan woes

Dan Bardell has insisted that Rangers returning to Ibrox will help them improve the gulf between them and Celtic, but more will be needed.

The Gers confirmed on 3 September that their Premier Sports Cup tie with Dundee on Saturday 21 September will see them return from Hampden Park.

This is a positive for the Light Blues after suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat in the Old Firm last time out at Parkhead.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell is unsure whether or not returning to Ibrox will be enough to close the gap to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “That will help, it hasn’t helped not being at Ibrox.

It has added to the woes of Rangers fans at the moment. Unfortunately, I do think it is going to need more than that to improve.

They aren’t playing well and it does feel like they are streets behind Celtic at the moment.

Getting back to their natural habitat will help fans because playing where they’ve been playing hasn’t been helpful.

Rangers ready to return to Ibrox after Celtic defeat

The international break came at an ideal time for Philippe Clement and the Gers in terms of results and allowing stadium work to be pushed along.

John Bennett and the hierarchy have come under fire for the Ibrox developments given how far into the season they have run.

This bad feeling has been compounded by a frustrating start to the season which has seen an Old Firm loss and elimination from the Champions League.

The Light Blues will be hoping that a return to Ibrox can spur their side on to success this season although there is already a gap forming between themselves and Celtic.

It would take a huge swing but with the home crowd behind them, and not shouting abuse at them in car parks, a turnaround could be completed.

In other Rangers news, one international star must prove himself to Philippe Clement ahead of his return.
