'Throw him in' - Pundit tells Clement to hand Rangers man start after what he did on int'l duty

Barry Ferguson has told Philippe Clement to “throw” Nedim Bajrami into the Rangers starting XI against Dundee United.

The Light Blues get their Premiership season back underway with a trip to Tannadice on Sunday (15 September) as they look to bounce back from their Old Firm defeat to Celtic at Parkhead.

Deadline day arrival Bajrami is available after his £3.5m move from Sassuolo [Chris Jack, 30 August] and Go Radio pundit Ferguson believes he has to be picked after his impressive exploits in the international break.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (9 September, 52:06) he said: “I’m looking forward to seeing him. I saw a bit of him in the Euros and looked back at a few highlights.

“Look, he looks a very decent footballer but you need to see him in the flesh. Scottish football is a difficult place to play your football but by all accounts, I think he can strengthen the team but time will tell.

“He’s been playing games so I would imagine get him straight into that team on Sunday. The pitch is going to be like a bowling green, throw him in because you spent £3.5million on him.

“If you spent that kind of money on him, he’s got to be a certain starter.”

The number 10 role has proven to be a bit of a problem position for Clement so far this season, with Tom Lawrence the only real recognised option available to the Belgian in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Todd Cantwell’s exit has long been confirmed and Ianis Hagi remains out of the first-team picture, leaving only Lawrence and now Bajrami to step into the attacking midfield role just behind Cyriel Dessers.

Rangers simply have to get back to winning ways at Tannadice on Sunday, otherwise, pressure is going to mount on Clement and his side from supporters and pundits alike, therefore the Belgian has to pick his strongest team.

Bajrami may not have really had a chance to train with his new side after he arrived so close to the international break, but as the marquee signing of the summer, he simply has to feature from the off.

Clement tends to slowly bed new signings into the starting XI over the course of the season, but with the title already slipping out of the Gers’ grasp, he has to be brave and make some bold decisions.
