Journo View: Tottenham teen to change Ange transfer plans after unexpected pre-season

Dan Bardell believes Lucas Bergvall’s pre-season form will change transfer plans for Tottenham.

The Sweden international signed for Spurs in February for £8.5m [BBC Sport] but didn’t join up with the squad until this summer’s preseason.

The 18-year-old’s performances have taken supporters by surprise, culminating in a superb second-half showing against Bayern Munich.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s transfer strategy may now change based on his Bergvall’s form.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “Sometimes players are signed for the future and then they look better than anyone thought.

“I think that is what we will see with Bergvall that gives Tottenham an extra option they might not have been expecting to have.

“It may change their transfer plans a little bit. I think it’ll end up being good all around for Tottenham.

“He is certainly a bright prospect but sometimes these sorts of players are ready to play already and I think he is.“

Signing a youngster from Sweden, no one would have assumed that he could become a first-team regular so soon in North London.

Bergvall has already formed a positive relationship with Archie Gray who also joined Spurs this summer, from Leeds United.

Although Postecoglou can’t completely rely on this duo, last season he showed faith in Pape Sarr in somewhat similar circumstances.

Like the Senegal star, it could take some time for the Swede to come up to speed with the Premier League but he has already shown a lot of qualities to be excited about.

Bergvall will be looking forward to his first campaign in England, hopeful of maintaining his preseason form.
