Keith Downie shares Minteh to Everton transfer update with new PSR verdict

Everton and Newcastle United would be helping each other’s respective prospective Profit and Sustainability situations with reported moves for Yankuba Minteh and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to Keith Downie.

The Sky Sports reporter took to X on 22 June and stated that the Toffees have a “tangible” interest in signing the 19-year-old winger, who spent last season on loan at Feyenoord.

Newcastle, meanwhile, want to take Calvert-Lewin to St James’ Park but Downie said there is work to do on the fee and personal terms and it is “far from a done deal”.

Everton supporters, sadly, know only too well how tough the Premier League’s PSR rules are and the club are making moves to stay within the financial limits this time around.

The Toffees were the first team to be punished by England’s top flight for a breach in PSR and were docked total of eight points last season for two separate charges.

The Daily Mail reported (20 June) that some “quick fire sales” before June 30 would help long term with their commitment to staying within PSR limits long term.

Hence why, one of the Toffees’ best youth prospects Lewis Dobbin has almost completed a move to Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £9million [Fabrizio Romano, 21 June] this summer.

And, much like Everton, Newcastle themselves are on the cusp of breaching the rules so are looking for sales before the deadline of 30 June.

With the rules as they currently are, it’s not surprising to see clubs trying swap deals and buying each other’s youth prospects to even out balance sheets.
