New Branthwaite transfer development emerges tonight at Everton - report

Manchester United are preparing a second bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, according to the Daily Mail.

Writing on their website (22 June), the news outlet report that the Toffees are braced for a new bid from the Red Devils after rejecting a £43million bid earlier in the window.

But Erik Ten Hag and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are keen to add to their defence after losing Raphael Varane on a free transfer, and have identified the 21-year-old Goodison Park star as their priority.

The Toffees have been expecting a lot of players to have interest this summer, but none more so than Branthwaite and the Reds are by far the most interested party.

But they clearly have a very different valuation of the defender and with Lewis Dobbin’s sale to Aston Villa expected to make the club compliant with PSR [Paul Joyce, 20 June], Sean Dyche now has no reason to drop his valuation.

It’s been widely reported that Ratcliffe and United have absolutely no intention of going up to £70million [Sheth, 17 June], so it would be far easier for everyone involved if they didn’t come back in.

Everton will be planning to have their star defender as part of the squad for the 2024/25 season, regardless of any bids that come in, and the mentality shouldn’t change now.

However, Man United will keep pushing to get their man and the Toffees have to be ready to adapt their plans if something unexpected happens.
