Dan Bardell: Everton in no position to turn down big money for exit-linked ace

Everton are not in a position to turn down big money for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and should cash in while they can command a decent fee, Dan Bardell has said.

A report from Graeme Bailey (4 July) suggested that the Englishman has rejected a fresh contract proposal from the Toffees and wants to leave for Newcastle United.

The 27-year-old had been linked with a move to the Magpies before the 30 June deadline for Profit and Sustainability accounts, with Yankuba Minteh reported to have been heading the other way.

Minteh has since instead joined Brighton butSky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes Everton cannot afford to lose Calvert-Lewin for free when his contract expires next summer.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “Everton aren’t in a position to turn down big money coming in.

Calvert-Lewin did finish the season well and could now demand a decent transfer fee. He would add a homegrown player for quotas for teams who play in Europe.

I don’t think that there’s any way Everton can let his contract run down. I think now is the best time to cash in whilst he’s on a good run without injury.

Everton have gone past PSR problems but they still need to take the money while he’s in a good place.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin wants to leave Everton for Newcastle

Calvert-Lewin had a positive end to the season, which included him scoring in the Merseyside derby win over Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Last term saw Calvert-Lewin feature much more regularly after a couple of injury-hit campaigns and his presence makes Everton a better team.

However, it is fair to say that the Englishman’s output wasn’t anything special across the season with seven goals and two assists in 32 Premier League appearances [FotMob].

The financial situation at Everton could see the Toffees forced into making sales this summer if they want to make many more additions, with ratification of Dan Friedkin’s takeover still to come.

Sean Dyche has already brought in Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille and confirmed the loan return of Jack Harrison from Leeds United.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could remain with Everton next season.

Selling Calvert-Lewin with Newcastle interested could prove to be a smart move, although he would need replacing.

Beto could be handed a chance by Dyche after a largely negative first campaign in the Premier League as a rotation option but most fans would want to see a quality replacement brought in if Calvert-Lewin were to leave.

In other Everton news, the Toffees may have found their Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement should the striker depart this summer.
