Report: 'Unbelievable' player could leave Tottenham and join CL club 'this week'

One Tottenham Hotspur player could be on his way out of the club very soon.

Spurs have been active in this summer’s transfer window. They have brought Timo Werner back on another loan deal, while Archie Gray has arrived as well from Leeds United.

Tottenham have also pushed a few unwanted players out of the club. The likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Japhet Tanganga, Ryan Sessegnon and Joe Rodon have all left.

Now, another player could depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and a deal could be completed before the final of Euro 2024 this Sunday.

The latest on Emerson Royal leaving Tottenham

Emerson Royal has been at Tottenham since the summer of 2021.

The Brazilian came in with a lot of hype from Barcelona. Many people expected him to be a huge success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but things just haven’t worked out.

Emerson has made plenty of mistakes at Spurs and has come under a lot of criticism as a result. He has also dropped below Pedro Porro in the pecking order.

Ange Postecoglou likes how Emerson trains and has even labelled his work ethic as ‘unbelievable’ (Sky Sports).

However, a move away from Tottenham would be the best thing for both parties, and Italian giants AC Milan have been heavily linked with a transfer.

Reports have claimed that Tottenham have rejected Milan’s first bid for Emerson, which was worth €14 million (just under £12m).

Now, Premier League Brasil have shared their information on the situation.

It has been revealed that the ‘soap opera’ between Tottenham and AC Milan for Emerson is about to come to an end.

The report claims that the Rossoneri, who, unlike Spurs, will be in the Champions League next season, will come back in with a new bid to sign the Brazilian full-back.

It has further been claimed that the offer will have to be close to €20 million (just under £17m) to be accepted, but the outlet confidently claims that negotiations should be completed ‘this week’.

Barcelona are also said to be interested in Emerson but it looks like AC Milan are the frontrunners for Emerson’s signature at the moment.

Tottenham have two surprise internal options to replace Emerson

Ideally, Tottenham will want to dive into the market to sign a replacement for Emerson if he leaves the club in this window.

However, Spurs need to strengthen other areas of the pitch as well – namely another centre-back, a left-back, a central midfielder and a new striker.

Those positions are much higher on the priority list than a backup right-back, especially as Postecoglou already has two internal options available.

One of them is the new boy, Gray. Yes, the teenager is naturally a central midfielder but he played 30 games for Leeds as a right-back in the 2023/24 season. He looked more than comfortable there.

Another option would be Djed Spence. The Englishman hasn’t been able to fulfil his potential at Tottenham, but he has reported for pre-season duties and could well catch Postecoglou’s eye.

It will be interesting to see what Spurs will do if Emerson leaves, but we don’t think signing a new replacement is a necessity in this window.
