Tottenham star Cristian Romero helped Argentina to keep a clean sheet and secure a 3-0 win over Chile on Friday 6 September.
La Albiceleste continued their World Cup qualification campaign with another win, maintaining the top spot in the CONMEBOL group.
Goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez and Paulo Dybala were enough to take three points against Ricardo Gareca’s side.
Spurs centre-back Romero played a role in the victory, helping to keep a clean sheet while also having an influence going forward.
Tottenham star Christian Romero helps Argentina to victory
The 26-year-old has always been an aggressive defender but it isn’t his defensive work that will have stood out to Ange Postecoglou against Chile.
It is safe to say that Romero could have done more in a defensive sense given that he failed to make a tackle out of two attempts while winning just five duels [FotMob].
This wasn’t so important against a Chile side which lacked true quality in attacking areas, having just one shot on target throughout [FotMob].
The Spurs boss will have been pleased to see the Argentine defender play out from the back and take time on the ball to look forward.
It has to be said, he wasn’t perfect with Goal.com saying: “Composed out of the back. A few dodgy moments, but he recovered well.”
Coming out from the back, the former Atalanta man had 82 touches and was able to complete 59 passes with an 89 per cent pass accuracy.
What will please Postecoglou more is that nine passes were into the final third which the Australian demands from his defenders.
In other Tottenham news, one star’s future at the club could be over after the latest announcement.
