Rangers to learn fate sooner than expected as 'Major Blow' on the cards - reports

Rangers are expected to learn their fate sooner than expected with regards to the UEFA investigation, according to Rangers Review.

The news outlet reported on 4 October that the pyro display by the Union Bears against Lyon on 3 October was at the top of the referee’s list as he submitted a report to UEFA and that a decision is expected during the international break, earlier than expected initially.

The Scottish Sun claimed that the decision would be known after the international break and one of the punishments could be a partial closure of Ibrox which would be a “major blow” for the club.

Rangers will be hoping for a benign punishment from UEFA

The best-case scenario for the Ibrox outfit concerning the UEFA investigation into the pyro display during their match against Lyon would likely involve a minimal financial penalty without any stadium closures or bans.

Given the severity with which UEFA typically addresses crowd disturbances, particularly involving pyrotechnics, a small fine might represent leniency, considering Rangers’ disciplinary history and the broader context of fan behaviour across European football.

This outcome would preserve the atmosphere at Ibrox, which is crucial for home advantage and fan morale, while also serving as a warning for future conduct.

Such a penalty would allow the club to continue playing in a full stadium, maintaining matchday revenue and avoiding the logistical and emotional impact of empty stands.

It would also signify that, while UEFA acknowledges the incident, the punishment aims at correction rather than severe discipline, potentially based on Gers’ cooperation or previous good behaviour in European competitions.

Right now, worrying about it will solve nothing and the club have an important game over the weekend against St Johnstone.

In other Rangers news, a first-team player now has three months left to fight for his future at Ibrox or he could be sold.
