Ian Kennedy believes Beto should be given a chance to start for Everton against West Ham United in their upcoming Premier League clash due to his recent performances.

The Toffees are set to take a trip down south on 9 November and face Lopetegui’s men in a match where they are looking to put a bit of breathing space between themselves and the bottom three.

Writing for the BBC Sport website (5 November), BBC reporter Kennedy shared why he believes Beto should start for Sean Dyche’s team.

“The Blues are tantalisingly close to mid-table security, but they are now also looking over their shoulder again,” he wrote.

“These are the games you don’t want to lose, which is why the defeat at St Mary’s last time out was so disappointing.

“Beto’s impact after coming on was significant – his VAR-denied goal was taken brilliantly, he hit the bar and he was involved in the incident that might have given Jan Bednarek a red card on another day.

“Has he done enough to get a start, factoring in his equaliser in the previous game against Fulham? Could he play alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin, in a change of formation? These are questions for Sean Dyche to ponder”.

Sean Dyche should start Beto for Everton

Beto’s recent form has been a sight to behold with his 91st-minute strike against Fulham on 26 October earning the Toffees a morale-boosting point in a game where they had struggled to put a dent in the match.

While Everton’s team often doesn’t look as strong without Dominic Calvert-Lewin leading their attacking line, it feels like a change is necessary.

Whether that be in formation or personnel is for Dyche himself to decide. Beto could easily slot into Dyche’s 4-2-3-1 set-up and could put a shift in as a sole striker.

However, unless Dwight McNeil can re-find his creative prowess, it doesn’t feel like the Toffees will be able to get enough balls up to the Guinea-Bissau international for him to have an impact.

Dyche could go back to his old ways of 4-4-2 but from previous memories of Beto and Calvert-Lewin playing up top together, this is also not an ideal solution.

Their upcoming Premier League clash against West Ham is arguably the most important of the Toffees’ season thus far and a loss at the London Stadium could potentially prove fatal to Everton’s chances of avoiding a relegation battle.
