'I'm on board' - Clifford a 'Huge' fan of player that could be heading to Rangers

Stevie Clifford is excited by the prospect of Abdallah Sima returning to Rangers from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Clifford discussed the prospect of Rangers re-signing Sima on The Rangers Review podcast [4 July] after the player posted a cryptic message on his Instagram on Wednesday (3 July).

Despite injury issues, Sima scored 16 goals last season on loan from Brighton, with his message stating “more to come soon” alongside footage of himself in a Gers shirt – which Clifford has wasted no time in rekindling hope of a return for the Senegalese.

“Let’s get excited. His wee montage that he’s done – all the responses were complete love for him,” Clifford said.

“He’s hugely popular, and could be the type of signing that could turn your transfer window from content to up a notch.

“Sima is one everybody would like, and with the possible hint in his montage, I’m on board. I’m a huge Abdallah Sima fan – let’s read into [his post].”

Rangers step up pursuit of Abdallah Sima

With signings underway at Ibrox, Rangers are seeking further attacking recruits and would do themselves no harm in signing a proven player in the Light Blue given Sima’s record in 2023-24.

The 23-year-old struck a chord with the Gers faithful last term, despite eventual disappointment in the campaign, and he is sure to be close to the top of an extensive list of targets for Nils Koppen, Philippe Clement and the backroom staff.

The squad at Ibrox is beginning to take shape and another forward will imminently be unveiled in Moroccan Hamza Igamane.

Oscar Cortes has been secured once again, and Clifford made the point when discussing Sima that a more advanced pursuit of the Brighton man extinguished the flame on the Yusuf Kabadayi deal from Bayern Munich, the player instead opting to join Augsburg.

With the chaos surrounding the severe delays in redeveloping Ibrox, meaning Rangers having to begin their season elsewhere, it is now even more imperative that they build the right standard of squad and do not let the lack of real home home advantage act as too much of a setback.
