Rangers fans rage at 'unbelievable' VAR drama during Hearts draw

Rangers fans on social media are outraged that their side was not awarded a penalty during their draw with Hearts.

Two late goals at Tynecastle put a dampener on Rangers’ final league outing of the season, with Hearts rescuing a point in a 3-3 draw on Saturday (18 May).

Ibrox-linked Lawrence Shankland opened the scoring for the hosts with a calm finish before Rangers responded in the second half with goals from Ross McCausland, Todd Cantwell and Fabio Silva.

But Steven Naismith’s side drew level late on through Dexter Lembikisa and Kyosuke Tagawa to deny the travelling Gers fans a winning end to the season.

Things could have turned out differently for Rangers if they were awarded an early penalty when Cyriel Dessers went to ground following a pull on his shirt.

However, referee Don Robertson did not point to the spot and his decision was not overturned by VAR.

Rangers fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, were left fuming at the decision, with many supporters believing it should have been a “stonewall” penalty for their side.

Ultimately, the draw at Tynecastle had no impact on the Scottish Premiership table with Celtic wrapping up the title earlier in the week with a 5-0 win over Kilmarnock.

Philippe Clement’s side will now turn their full attention towards their Scottish Cup final clash against arch-rivals Celtic next Saturday (25 May).
