Keith Jackson instantly laughs as Derek McInnes to Rangers suggestion emerges

Keith Jackson has laughed at the possibility of Derek McInnes not taking the Hearts job to wait for Philippe Clement to be sacked from Rangers.

John Gilligan recently confirmed to Sky Sports Scotland [24 September], that Clement is backed by the Ibrox board, with patience needed rather than another dismissal.

McInnes is currently at Kilmarnock and has been touted as an option to take the hotseat at Tynecastle after the sacking of Steven Naismith.

While replying to a suggestion on the Daily Record Hotline Live (24 September) that McInnes was instead waiting for Ibrox, Jackson couldn’t help but laugh.

“That’s only half a joke by the way,” he immediately said.

Philippe Clement looks safe at Rangers for now

Although the Gers haven’t performed to the standards expected of them this term, it feels like the club is finally on its way up, with some sort of rhythm found.

Of course one of their main focuses this season will be on the Scottish Premiership but the club also have the Europa League to think about.

While there’s no doubt that they’d have preferred to be competing in the Champions League for the extra monetary gains, the fact that the Gers have a 26.4 per cent chance to make it past the first Europa League phase shows the challenge they have [Opta, 24 September].

There’s no shying away from the fact that their chances are fairly slim but the fact that they’re even in with a shout should no doubt motivate the team to try and outdo their expectations.

As for McInnes, if he wants to move on to new pastures, it looks as though Hearts is the option he may have to take, there’s no space at Ibrox.
