Keith Jackson concedes that “fundamental change” is required at Rangers as something “entirely new” is needed at the club.
The Gers have found themselves under a lot of pressure recently for a plethora of reasons and the departure of chairman John Bennett has brought into question whether a change in the boardroom is required.
Jackson thinks new investment and new ideas are required at Ibrox if the club are to make improvements on and off the pitch and suggested the current board should be willing to step aside.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (9 October), Jackson said: “They [Rangers] need outside investment, they don’t need to be run by a committee, they actually need something entirely new, fundamental change is required.
“Fresh money from fresh investors [is what’s needed], not the same old name with the same old ideas.
“It needs a contemporary reboot and the only way of doing that is for the guys in that boardroom to be prepared to let go”.
Rangers need to welcome new investors to better their results
The Gers are still undergoing a rebuild, both on and off the pitch, but a club this size cannot stagnate while that is happening.
The summer transfer window brought about change to the playing squad with Philippe Clement allowing experienced pros such as Borna Barisic and John Lundstram to depart to make space for the likes of Jefte and Connor Barron to replace them.
John Bennett’s sudden resignation due to health reason shocked many [The Athletic, 14 September] and threw another spanner into the works for Rangers.
Bennett’s exit seems to have sparked a chain reaction as Creag Robertson has also seemingly handed in his resignation [Scottish Daily Mail, 9 October, page 69] from his role as director of football operations.
Although John Gilligan was brought in on an interim basis to fill the void left by the ex-chairman, he now finds himself hunting for another replacement for the Gers’ hierarchy.
Fresh investors with new ideas would no doubt be a welcome addition to Rangers and could perhaps provide them with the improvements they desire.
Whatever course of action is taken next, it is absolutely crucial that Rangers get their house in order both on and off the pitch because they cannot afford to be in a state of flux.
