Keith Jackson believes Rangers could sack Philippe Clement after their Scottish League Cup final against Celtic in December.
The Gers are coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Motherwell in the semi-finals of the League Cup on 3 November after a game where Clement’s men once again underwhelmed.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (4 November), journalist Jackson shared his verdict on what Sunday’s win meant for the future of Clement at Ibrox and fears for the Belgian after the 15 December showpiece.
“Rangers are just wobbling about from one calamity to the next, this [win against Motherwell] has solved nothing,” Jackson said.
“Do you know all it’s done, it means Clement has to face Celtic at Hampden in December and that will probably be the game that finishes him”.
Philippe Clement’s Rangers future is still up in the air
It’s no secret that Rangers have been well below par this season. The club are nine points adrift of their title rivals and currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership.
John Gilligan did back Clement publically on Sky Sports earlier in the season (24 September) but since then, things haven’t got any better.
While the Ibrox outfit have pulled a few decent results out of the bag this term, when it’s come down to high-pressure games such as the first Old Firm derby of the season or their clash against second-placed Aberdeen, the Gers have crumbled.
The lack of permanent behind-the-scenes staff at Rangers has likely afforded the Belgian a bit of an extended stay in his role but that shouldn’t excuse the consistent poor performances his team have put in recently.
Many managers such as Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat have been linked with the hotseat and unless Clement can get his act together, it could well be curtains for the 50-year-old soon.
In other Rangers news, Tam McManus has been left amazed by a claim that a Gers fan made about Cyriel Dessers.
