Keith Wyness blown away by FSG's negotiating after confirmed Liverpool deal news

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group will be in “no rush” to seal big-money takeovers and start a multi-club network.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the US group will be focused on improving the value of their existing assets.

FSG had looked set to buy French club Bordeaux but pulled out of the deal after a twist in negotiations.

The 2008-09 Ligue 1 winners revealed in a statement (16 July) that FSG cited future maintenance costs of the stadium, plus the general uncertainty over the financial stability of football in the country as concerns.

Liverpool were purchased by the US-based investors in 2010 and have since secured Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup titles.

Wyness praised FSG as one of the “best-in-class” football owners.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The long-term goal for FSG is pretty simple – they want to improve the value of their assets by managing them correctly.

“That’s what they’ve done, they’ve shown themselves to be great custodians.

“Look at the price they paid for Liverpool, and what it’s worth now – it’s fantastic.

“They’ll be in no rush to take over at another club. They’re already split nicely across other sports.

“All the eggs aren’t in one basket.

“They’re one of the best-in-class at what they’re doing. It’s more of a race to quality, and that’s what they are doing.”

In other news, Reds told £50million defender bid will be accepted.
