Keith Wyness: Chelsea are on course for 'massive punishment'

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Chelsea are on course for “massive punishment” if the Premier League find their intra-company transactions illegal.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed he “knows” the circa-£150million sale of the Blues’ women’s side is being analysed by the top-flight.

Chelsea have sold their women’s team, Stamford Bridge hotels and part of their Cobham training ground to companies linked to owners BlueCo in recent years.

Those transactions have allowed the club to reduce their losses and spend more in the transfer market without breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The Blues have continued to spend this summer – bringing no fewer than nine new faces to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea may be planning to ‘beg for forgiveness’, says Wyness

Wyness claimed Chelsea and their US ownership may just be planning to “beg for forgiveness” if their intra-company sales are deemed illegal.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think it’s just the amortisation of the contracts which means Chelsea are getting away without PSR punishments.

“They’re also selling parts of the club like the women’s side for $200million intra-company, and I know that’s being analysed.

“I just don’t understand how they can carry on spending.

“If all these transactions – women’s team, training ground, hotels, etc – are under analysis, it’s like Chelsea are just going to beg for forgiveness if it’s found illegal.

“Either that, or they’ll just get a massive punishment.

“They’re amassing all this talent and the depth is amazing. Something just doesn’t seem right at the moment, and we’re all just trying to get to the bottom of it.”
