Keith Wyness drops Wolves takeover verdict after new development

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Wolves owners Fosun are “looking for an exit” as they search for minority investment.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Chinese conglomerate may sell the club in a “gradual process” across several years.

According to The Sun (13 June), New York-based Moelis & Company have been hired to sell a stake in Wolves to raise funds to improve the squad while avoiding financial problems.

It is claimed that Chinese majority owners Fosun want to remain involved but want to bring in partners to offer support.

Wolves were forced into a 17-man fire sale last summer (2023) with the likes of Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes sold to avoid a potential points deduction for breaching financial rules.

Fosun eyeing full Wolves sale in ‘gradual process’, says Wyness

The Midlands club finished 14th in the Premier League in the 2023-24 campaign.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Wolves have already had people come in and buy minority stakes, one company sold theirs on about a year ago.

“They can put together a group of owners who can not only bring capital but also expertise.

“The problem becomes there are then too many cooks who get involved, which leads to conflict.

“That’s the problem. Minority owners are great, provided they are silent owners or they provide expertise in other areas beyond the football side.

“It’s always good to have clever people around you, but there have to be as few people involved as possible on the football side.

“It’s something Wolves have done in the past, and they’ll do it again.

“I think Fosun may be looking for an exit at some stage.

“They may be looking for more than a minority owner – they’ll want someone to take over in future.

“That will come in several years as the new partner understands the club more and more, it’s a gradual process.

“That’s what I think may be the case at Wolves.”
