Keith Wyness: Nottingham Forest to confront 'Big' issues after new reveal

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes Nottingham Forest are now going to confront some of their “big” issues after consolidating their place in the Premier League.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted they won’t face any relegation trouble this season.

Forest have flirted with the relegation zone over the past couple of seasons since securing their long-awaited return to the top flight in 2022.

They were hit with a four-point deduction last season after being charged by the Premier League with a breach of the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

But Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have enjoyed a solid start to the new campaign as they currently sit 10th in the Premier League table.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is also exploring different options to extend the capacity of the City Ground in a bid to help the club continue its progress.

Nottingham Forest in better position to tackle off-field issues

Wyness believes Forest will now be in a better position to tackle some of their issues after establishing themselves in the Premier League.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “You get that feeling there’s been a sort of a deep breath from Forest of ‘Hang on, we’re going to be okay this year’.

“That’s what we said at the start. We did think they would be okay this year.

“They do feel that now they’re going to handle some of the bigger issues now that they feel they’re going to be able to consolidate their position in the league.

“That’s exactly what we predicted. It would be two or three seasons in the Premier League, possibly up to five to show that you can actually stay in the league.

“Then you’ve got to handle all the other bigger issues that are around it and that’s what I think Forest are trying to do right now.

“But yes, I think they do feel that they are now going to be able to stay up this year and so they’re going to confront some big issues.”
